Entry #5 Bigger Opportunities!
In the article, “Earning potential goes up a lot for Arizonans with college degrees. Here’s now much” We see some really good statistics on the topic of how education affects incomes. Even the difference between high school graduates and non high school graduates is so significant. The numbers are shocking yet they feel correct. I firmly believe that is possible for someone to be extremely successful without degrees, but I fear that most people who do not complete school do not put in the effort to make their life one that accomplishes long term goals.
The article, “Ducey: Why Arizona needs more college grads” made me feel truly inspired for our state of Arizona. I appreciate all of the information that was included in it. But it also has a plan, the funding, and the solution. I like how Governor Ducey relates to us by mentioning that he is a husband and father. It shows that he understands the challenges that come with being the head of the household and it makes the article feel genuine and real.
I grew up always knowing I would pursue education after high school. My parents always told me I needed one of three things: a college degree, a certificate from trade school, or a resume full of experience. Without one of those things, it will be incredibly challenging to attain a job or career that will sustain me. So naturally, as soon as I graduated, I moved onto the next step. Which for me, was college.I plan on having a family and being a stay at home mom someday. I want to focus on being a wife and mother, and homeschool my kids just as I was homeschooled. But someday, my kids will grow up and I will not need to stay home anymore. Or worse, if something were to happen to my husband, I would need to go to work. I need something reliable to fall back on that I could support my family with.
Reading these articles make me feel proud to be a current college student. It feels good to know that I will be in the percentage of college graduates, whether it be an associates or a bachelor's degree. I am obtaining knowledge that sets up my future better. I have always known the importance of looking ahead to my future. I know that things will not be handed to me and that life requires hard work. That being said, it is easier said than done. As I navigate through college, I am striving for excellence not just in my education, but in every aspect of my life. I want to look back at these years of my life and know that I not only did well in school, but that I spent time preparing for my life outside of school.
I fully support more people going to college and setting themselves up for more success and higher incomes. There are so many making opportunities out there and I want everyone in the world to be able to grasp those opportunities for themselves. It is so possible and I believe we are making good steps in the right direction!
